For five generations our family has grown coffee in the municipality of Santuario. Founded originally as a German colony by the Gartner family, it was known for its beer and bread, till the brewery burned down. It is said that our great great grandfather brought coffee to this region as it was spreading fast through the newly established country of Colombia.
Santuario is located in the central region west of the department of Risaralda. Its home to two national natural parks Tatama and San Rafael, places rich in flora and fauna. Coffee growers are small and medium-sized, an average of 3 hectares (7.413 acres), rainfall averages between 1.800 and 2.400 mm, the coffee growing zone is located between 1,650 and 1,800 meters, the soils are from volcanic ash with slopes up to 75% main harvest season (65%) from November to January and mid harvest (35%) from May to July. For processing, the farmers collect only grains of optimum maturation, the fermentation is aerobic, a minimum time of 15 hours. Cafe with floral notes, red berries and caramel.
This coffee is hand selected from several of the amazing producers, including some from our family farm. Our partnership with these producers ensures better prices for their product which in turn will be redistributed within the town to benefit roads, school, and parks.
